Day 13: Ferries & Seattle

In order to make it on time to the 8:00am ferry in Port Townsend this morning, we had to leave our cabin in the woods at 5:30am. We did catch another glimpse of our deer before we left, though!

That made for a VERY early start time for us today. We drove through Port Angeles at about 7am, and it was a cute little town on the water with ferries to Victoria, B.C. After PA (as the locals call it) we made our way to Port Townsend to get in line for the ferry.

Once on board, we headed up to the observation deck, and even though it was COLD we stayed out there long enough to take some pictures.

The ferry from Port Townsend took us to Coupeville which is a small town on Whidbey Island. In order to get to Seattle, we had to take another ferry from Clinton, on the other side of Whidbey, to Mukilteo.

After we were in Mukilteo, it wasn't long before we could see the skyline of Seattle, and most importantly to the average tourist: The Space Needle!

Our hotel is in the perfect location right on 7th ave and Pine. We are three blocks from the Pike Place Fish Market and located directly in the hear of the shopping district (Tiffany's and Barney's are RIGHT below us). We are also just a short Monorail ride from the Seattle Center and a short Lightrail ride from SoDo. Our hotel is called "The Roosevelt" and we can see it from just about any where with it's huge sign on top.

After we checked in, we headed down to SoDo (also known as the theater district) to the Century Link Field Event Center and the Health & Fitness Expo. We had to pick up our race bibs and swag bags, and the free stuff at the expo never hurt anyone!

By the time we left the expo, it was POURING down rain and I decided I needed to change into jeans and a sweatshirt. We dropped our stuff off at the hotel, I changed my clothes and we took off to use our Seattle City Passes which give us discounted access to all the sights in Seattle. Our first stop was the Pike's Place Fish Market. We'll be back on Sunday to buy some fish to bring home. :)

After the market, we headed to the Seattle Aquarium, which was a really neat, smaller aquarium that really focused on the marine life surrounding Seattle. My favorite part of this place was the Octopus.

Following the aquarium, we headed over to the Argosy Harbor Tour and took a one hour tour around the bay in Seattle. I did this once when I was in Seattle when I was 16, but this time it was such a different experience! I learned things about Seattle I definitely didn't know and I got to do it with my amazing husband on my honeymoon!

We rounded out the day with dinner at a local suggestion called Bruno's which was a Mexican AND Italian Restaurant. At first, it sounded disgusting, but it was actually really good!

Tomorrow, our monorail departs for the start line at 5:20 a.m.! We have to get up at 4:30, but we are carb-loaded and ready to go! It's early, but it's time to get some much needed zzzzz's before the race!
