Day 1: San Diego

When we pulled up to the hotel, I could hardly keep from squealing I was so excited! The hotel is completely surrounded by a Marina on the small sliver of land called Shelter Island.

The hotel has this incredible sea-side feeling to it. Everything about it reminds me that I am on the coast. When we walked into the lobby, it was like we had been transported to a tropical island.

We arrived a little before check-in, so our room wasn't quite ready. This actually turned out great because of the amenities of the hotel. One of these included complimentary beach cruiser bike rentals. We checked out two bikes and took them for a ride up and down the island. It was almost surreal how perfect the day was. It was sunny, just a few high clouds in the sky, and 83 degrees. I couldn't imagine a more incredible San Diego Day.

Here's a picture of us with the San Diego Skyline in the background:
Here is a quick video of Jason riding his bike back to the hotel:

When we got back from biking, our hotel room was ready. When we came around the corner and saw the view, it was a dream come true. The room was in a separate little cabana type place from the rest of the hotel. It looked out over the Marina, and only shared a wall with one other guest room on the west side. It was a huge room with a King bed and a newly remodeled bathroom. It was surrounded on the outside by tropical plants and had a patio with two chairs so we can enjoy the sunrise from our room.

After we got settled in our room, we decided to go down to the pool for a little bit. The pool area looks out over the marina and has pool-side service for food and drink. It was only about 3:00 at this point, so we had a little something to eat and some strawberry banana smoothies, and soaked up the sun. Then, we headed back to the room to catch some quick zzzz's before we went out to dinner.

On our way to the Gaslamp Quarter for dinner, we made a stop at Seaport Village to bum around the shops. It's a little touristy, but it's still such a neat little place to see in San Diego. We drove there with the top down on the convertible

After Seaport Village, we headed to the Gas Lamp Quarter. The atmosphere of this part of San Diego is totally infectious. It's so vibrant with locals and tourists alike. There are tons of condos on top of most of the buildings, so it;s fun to mingle with the people who actually live there too. The Gaslamp Quarter is an historic part of San Diego that has been revitalized to include restaurants and little shops.

We had dinner at a restaurant called the Gaslamp Strip Club. It's not what you think! It's actually a steakhouse where you cook your own steaks on these large gas grills inside the restaurant. Because you cook your own steak, they are incredibly affordable, and neither of use spent more than $20 on our food.

Tomorrow we are off to Seaworld. We have to check out our hotel before we leave because we are driving to Anaheim in the evening. This day in San Diego has been the most amazing start to our honeymoon! 14 more days to go!
